Mai-Nefhi — A total of 952 students graduated today from the Eritrean Institute of Technology in Mai-Nefhi degree and diploma.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mr. Semere Russom, Minister of Education, representing President Isaias Afwerki, Chancellor of the Eritrean Institutions of Higher Learning, explained that the Government is making substantial investment in human resource development through expanding institutions of higher learning. He further called on the graduates to make due contribution in efforts to build a strong and prosperous nation.
The vice president of academic affairs in the Institute, Dr. Gebreberhan Okgazgi, on his part pointed out that the Institute is working diligently to nurture competent manpower through offering courses dealing with technological advancement. He also explained that the first batch of graduates would play major role in the national development drive.
Also speaking on the occasion, the executive director of the Board of Institutions of Higher Learning, Dr. Tadese Mehari, outlined the vigorous efforts being exerted to promote higher education. Noting that the number of students in colleges is growing manifold, Dr. Tadese indicated that over 10,000 students are pursuing different courses in the academic year 2007/2008. He added that the colleges are exchanging experience through fostering cooperation with various foreign universities and colleges.
Present at the graduation ceremony were ministers, senior government officials, religious leaders, college deans, instructors, invited guests and parents.
