Kampala — UNICEF has donated stationery and sanitary kits to candidates sitting Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Lango sub-region.

Margaret Okunyu, the Apac district assistant inspector of schools, thanked UNICEF for the contribution, saying the North had lagged behind in development due to the war by the Lord's Resistance Army rebels.

She said in the past, some pupils had failed to sit their examinations because they lacked sanitary towels.

She added that several others failed Mathematics because they lacked geometry sets.

Okunyu cautioned head teachers against diverting the stationery for personal gain.

She urged school authorities to allow pregnant girls sit examinations.
