Uganda: Men Held Over Robbery

Kampala — THE Police have detained three men George Kabugo, Ronald Sserunkuuma and Rajab Ssemakula.over the theft of women's bags and phones.

The division police commander, Wandegeya, Phillip Oceya, said two of the suspects were arrested on Friday.

The Police recovered two bags from the suspects, one containing the documents of Frista Nalwanga, a student of Makerere University.

The Police have also arrested a man suspected to be part of the gangsters commonly known as iron bar hit men terrorising city dwellers.

John Walusimbi, 20, a resident of Kagugube Zone in Makerere Kivulu was arrested on Thursday night.

"The hit men target people moving at night and rob them of money and other belongings. Others break into people's houses using metallic tools and cause harm to their victims. Several people have been killed during the robberies."Oceya said.

He said the Police had charged Walusimbi with robbery and illegal possession of a weapon.

"We received information from the victims and some of his accomplices who were arrested, saying Walusimbi was very notorious," Oceya said.
