Diphatsa volleyball men team captain Tabaka Mothudi has blamed complacency for their loss against Kutlwano in the final of the Debswana Cup on Saturday.

Diphatsa lost 3-2 to Kutlwano in a closely -contested match.

Mothudi said they were relaxed and came with the mentality that they were going to win the game.

He said they could have won the third set but they underrated their opponents.

He added that when the going got tough, his players started panicking and committed basic mistakes. Mothudi said his team has a tendency of getting too excited and losing concentration when in the lead. He said they have tried to address the issue but it seems it is not easy for players to change.

Kutlwano captain, Shadrack Kapeko said they started on a low note because they were still reading the game and trying to organise themselves. He said they lost the first set because they committed many mistakes. He added that they woke up as the game progressed because Diphatsa got tired and lost concentration.

Kapeko hailed Diphatsa players saying they showed a big heart and lost like heroes. He said with hard work, they can be a force to reckon with in the near future.

Diphatsa started the game on a high note but failed to maintain the pace.

The Francistown side was once again outstanding in the block and lost a game they could have won with ease.

Diphatsa won the third set to make it 2-1 but Kutlwano refused to give up as they won the fourth set.

They proceeded to win the deciding set 15-13 to lift the cup. Diphatsa showed character and continued to soldier on against the odds.

Kapeko almost cost his side in the beginning of the last set because of poor calculation as he played most of his balls outside the court.

Utlwano walked away with P15,000 while Diphatsa got P10,000 for their efforts.
