After a boardroom decision denied Tornado the Castle Lager National Cricket League crown last year, the record champions proved their dominance by reclaiming the coveted title yesterday.
All Tornado needed was a no result game (washed out) against the defending champions Africa Cricket Club (ACC) after umpires Francis Ekalunga and Baker Elonge declared Kyambogo oval's conditions unfavourable for play.
Not a single ball was bowled after the early morning heavy downpour. That prompted the umpires to award each side two points.
With the other Super Six game in Entebbe between ill-fated title challengers Wanders and Nile being called off for the same reasons, it meant that Sam Walusimbi's charges with 30 points were never going to catch up with Tornado who wrapped up their regular season fixtures with 38 points.
A win is four points whereas a win with a bonus point is five.
Wanderers, though still have, one fixture against ACC and while the defending champions will be battling for a slot in the Shs1m Castle Champions Trophy that is contested for by the top four finishers, Wanderers will be targeting to consolidate the second position.
"We were impressive throughout and the statistics tell it all. The fact that we have won on the last day means that the league has been very competitive and we worked hard for every result," said all-rounder Frank Nsubuga.
Elsewhere, the national cricket team arrived in South Africa safely yesterday morning and set off to Benoni to it's warm up tour ahead of Division 3 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League (WCL) in Buenos Aires, Argentina early next year in January.
Assistant Team Manager Justine Ligyalingi led the 12-man team captained by Davis Arinaitwe.
Semi-professional Kenneth Kamyuka, Hamza Saleh, Junior Kwebiiha, Benjamin Musoke, Akbar Baig and Nehal Bibodi all stayed back because of either work or personal commitments but will join the team next week.
Results - Super Six
ACC v Tornado (no result due to bad weather & pitch state)
Wanderers v Nile (No result due to bad weather & pitch state)
