United Bank for Africa (UBA), one of the leading banks in Sierra Leone, Friday celebrated its 100 days of operation in the country.
The occasion was also used to launch the bank's ATM service which according to the chief executive officer (CEO) would enhance the banking experience of their customers and also attract new ones to the bank.
Abdul-Rahman Yinusa told journalists in Freetown that the bank started operating in Sierra Leone on July 22nd and noted that the launching of the ATMs would give quality service to their customers.
"The continuous growth of our customers is a clear indication that people in Sierra Leone are embracing UBA. We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing world class financial services," he said.
The CEO said as part of the bank's vision to be the undisputed leading and dominant financial institution in Africa, the bank's expansion drive in the continent continues with Tanzania, the latest addition to the network of 12.
"This is in addition to our operations in London, New York and Cayman Islands. As a recognized leader within the banking industry, we will continue to be a role model for African businesses by creating a superior value for our stakeholders," he said.
Yinusa noted that they would always abide by the utmost professional and ethical standards of banking operations in the country adding that, "We will build an enduring institution."
He said it has been a great challenge to operate a bank in Sierra Leone noting that after their 100 days in the country, they have been able to overcome some of the challenges.
"We have 1, 500 customers within our 100 days in the country. Competition is not our problem. We are here to support the government and people of Sierra Leone from the destruction that took place during the rebel war," he said.
UBA's head of country operations Ejiofor Ndubuisi said the ATM service would be accessible by their customers 24 hours everyday.
"We have services that will make the ATM service effective. We are determined to give our customers quality service," he said.
