President Ernest Bai Koroma, who told a predominantly fishing community in Shenge, Moyamba district that Sierra Leone could live by fish alone, also expressed concerned that the country was losing $US29 million to illegal fishing each year.
The president was in the area to launch the sites for the construction of jetties and other ancillary facilities when he observed that "for a country to be losing that much, this must be a serious business."
According to deputy mayor of the municipality Rebecca John the last time Bonthe had a taste of development was during the era of late President Siaka Stevens.
While he blamed most of that loss on bad contractors who benefit from projects at the expense of the people, Koroma further asserted that "fishing has the potential of lifting Sierra Leone from the doldrums to prosperity."
"This must stop. And it can only stop when we all become watchmen of our programmes."
The President said it was a shame that the country could be placed in the category of poor countries when it has a great potential in fishing, mining, and agriculture.
The President reminded the people that his government was taking a tough stance on poaching trawlers from other countries through greater surveillance activities by the naval wing of the country's armed forces.
He also advised people to avoid bad fishing methods like the use of explosives and monofilaments, in order to preserve the fish for future generations.
"This is not time for politics; it is time for development. And development does not choose a face or party or a surname. When it comes, everybody will enjoy; when it's absent, everybody suffers. And development means we should get new things done. If we manage the fishing business properly, it alone can get this country developed."
ADB representative Solomon Saybana Kamara said he was there to assure the people that his organization would provide the funds for the work to commence soon.
Member of Parliament representing the area, the SLPP's Veronica Kadie Sesay, said she admires the President and his attitudinal change campaign before entrusting the success of the construction of the jetty and other facilities to the local people.

First, God had nothing to do with the election of the soupist EBK. Soupism is atheism in practice.
Second, you are better off relaxing at Lumley Beach, away, from the parade of the prostitutes thereat, than essaying to figure out the accounting of soupism. Soupism is unaccountability supreme. Moreover, the discourse of "poaching" from a soupist is analogous to the pot calling the kettle black, or do you disagree?
Third, as an ideologue of the grand theory of running the soupist occupier state of Sierra Leone as a "business" (the business of looting the territory, actually), perhaps the Professors of the soupist occupier state at FBC forget to instruct the soupist on the benefits of economic diversification.
Of course, the probable truth is that soupism has appropriated all the diverse productive sites of economic well-being in the soupist occupied territory of Sierra Leone/and the people eat gari and drink kroobay wata.
Kindest Felicitations.
Who ever you are, you are just showing off your intellectual short-comings. If I read sense into what you have written you seem to be completely negative to efforts by the present EBK Administration towards charting a new direction for Sierra Leone and Sierra Leoneans. Take the warning that words are like leaves and where they most abound much fruit of sense beneath is rarely found. Note: the word 'Soupist' seems to be your new found vocabular and you have over-used it here.
Dude, let me tell you a thing or two. I won't argue "intellectual short-comings" with you; that's vintage soupist intellectualist clap trap. Get it? Don't even go there. Verstehen Sie, homey?
Soupism, you thunder in abyssmal ignorance, is my "new found word"? Fellow, check the archives of Awareness Times and this site, and you will change your ungrounded and ungroundable prejudice.
On EBK, the doctrine of Soupism thunders: TIFFY, TIFFY, just as the grand thief Dr. Alhaji Kabba. Got a problem problem with my OPINION? Then, let us debate: stop dropping bogus characterizations about my intellect or, for that matter, anyone else's.
The soupist occupied territory of Sierra Leone has produced many, many, many 'intellectuals' yet it is COUNTRY NUMBER ZERO, another theoretical lemma of my theory of soupism, which, contrary to your naive misconstruction, ain't no "word," BUT A THEORY.
Best Regards.
ON SOUPIST 'INTELLECTUALS': UNPRODUCTIVE PARASITES
Given the exchange supra, I am constrained to deconstruct, rather---forget French obscurantist 'philosophy'---DESTROY the hubris of soupist intellectuals; modern day Davidson Nicols sans nothing to contribute to the cultural traditions of soupist Sierra Leone either in the realm of the practical or the theoretical.
IRREFRAGABLE FACT: No Sierra Leonean intellectual, soupist or not, has ever won a nobel prize, sounding either in zone peace or site intellectual prowess.
Accordingly, the "Athens" of Africa, my foot.
Indeed, the self-characterization "Athens" betrays the effective alienation of soupist intellectuals: they plant their intellectual tents in a WRITTEN CULTURAL TRADITION that can never benefit the neo-modern, sub-altern inhabitants of soupist occupied Sierra Leone.
Encore: Athens, my foot.
Accordingly, henceforth, I declare a reflective war on soupist intellectuals, those in soupist occupied Sierra Leone and those hibernating and rotting---MAROONED---in tenured or non-tenured positions IN UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES OR WHATEVER in what is naively denoted as "the Western World."
Bring it on!
Man have you got the mental bug! You just seem to be rattling words. I am convinced we are not on the same broadband wavelength
Again let me repeat that words are like leaves and where they most abound much fruit of sense beneath is rarely found. All of your new found vocabulary and theory is not a relevant contribution to the development of Sierra Leone and Sierra Leoneans. I am not in a talk show with you nor I'm I drawing daggers with my own kith and kin.
I had seen enough blood-letting during the war years; from 1991 to 2002 I lived in Freetown and Kono and never ran away like most people who were abroad living and contributing to the Credit Crunch. Yet I was an unarmed innocent Sierra Leonean. Even though my job has taken me overseas I still go home at least twice a year.
The EBK Administration has started bringing change that Sierra Leoneans believe in. Perhaps your only source of information is Awareness Times. I am the source of my own because he who feels it knows it.
Fellow, you can take it to the bank that we are not on the same "wavelength", or, as I would scribe it, radar.
And, en passant, I have no interest in your autobiographical comments, your vacuous and ungroundable attribution of "new found vocabulary and theory...." INCLUSIVE.
Substantively, please inform the readers of YOUR CRITERION for a text that makes a "relevant contribution to the development of Sierra Leone and Sierra Leoneans."
Should you fail to do that, or evade the task by shuffling into the bush of obscurantism, you'd be the real ranconteur of fables, rattling words, and similar word strings.
You are not in a "talk show with me", you aver? Be real: this is a forum, and a fortiori, it is a "talk show", to pimp your verba.
Finally, I am drawing REFLECTIVE "daggers" with the proxies of the proxies of the criminal caboodu of degenerates in the soupist APC and soupist SLPP.
And, should you have a problem with THAT, dude, there ain't nothing you can do about it, at least not in this forum, except come back with a bag of dry, dead leaves, for so far, your prose rocks in zone ambien.
Kindest Felicitations.
