The Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin, has stated that victory awaits the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the forthcoming general elections, because the time of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rule is over.
"We are going to win this election by 60%, and there is no doubt about that. Volta Region is our World Bank, while the Northern Region, where I come from, is the I.M.F of the NDC," he stressed.
Hon. Bagbin said in 2004, the NPP tried to frustrate the NDC, but his party still managed to get 44 per cent of the total votes.
According to him the NDC was now more vibrant, and that they would ride on that to win the elections.
The Minority Leader was speaking at a rally at the Ho on Sunday, to officially launch the campaign for Hon. George Nfodjoh, the Member of Parliament for Ho Central Constituency.
Bagbin said Ghana had lost its international reputation as a result of the cocaine trade, which was not the case when the NDC was in power.
He continued that the educational system of the country had been destroyed due to poor management.
He accused the government of not making the teacher the pivot in which the education reform must revolve.
He said an NDC government would give teachers study leave with pay to improve upon their education. A public university would also be established at Ho. The Minority Leader called on the security agencies, to be neutral on the day of the elections, and discharge their duties diligently.
He said any security officer who would be found in activities that would not promote free and fair elections, would not be forgiven, and asked the people to be vigilant on the day of the elections, to prevent any form of malpractices. The Member of Parliament for Keta, Mr. Dan Abodakpi, also alleged that he was aware of what he called a secret agreement, signed by the President and the Energy Minister with a petroleum firm, to engage in oil exploration in the Keta basin.
He described the action as very unfortunate, especially when the local people had not been informed about the exploration.
Abodakpi said the government had failed Ghanaians in improving upon their living conditions. He said corruption was at its highest peak in the country, and called on the people to reject the NPP.
