DR. PAA KWESI Nduom, the Presidential Candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has taken his "edwumawura" message to the doorsteps of musicians despite reports that some musicians had joined the band wagon of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
At a meeting with the musicians last Friday where the huge number of musicians led by Gyedu Blay Ambulley, openly poured out their frustrations to the CPP Presidential candidate, who expressed concern for their sentiments.
According to Dr. Nduom, though he cannot promise them any immediate solutions, but when given the opportunity he would ensure that the talent of musicians would be given the due recognition and reward.
He said in order for the music industry to be given the needed support, structures must be put in place to benefit the music industry, so thet people who use the musicians would be made to pay the appropriate fees through the Music union, to enable them make a living.
The CPP Presidential candidate, one time Energy Minister under the regime of the NPP and later the Minister of Public Sector Reforms, said the CPP was doing everything possible to win the elections to solve the nagging and wanton poverty that has engulfed the nation.
He underscored that should the CPP fail to clinch victory in the December 7 general elections, the party would push the elections to second round. He added that since people have decided to make mockery of the party to be full of old men and women, the CPP took such comments seriously and recruited over 300, 000 people to become card bearing members of the CPP, with most of them being in the youth.
"I am confident that with the young people in the party, we shall win the elections. Let the NPP and NDC say they are winning 50+1%. We represent the youth and we are doing everything to win, and if possible push it to the second round," he said.
Dr. Nduom, who was flanked by the Greater Accra Regional chairperson of the CPP, Mrs. Susuana Amankwa, the parliamentary candidate for Osu-Korley-Klottey and aspiring candidate for Odododiodio, reiterated his call on clean campaign, devoid of insults and personality attacks. According to him, the CPP would not tolerate its members who engage in personality attacks and insults. He stressed that politics should not divide us in the sense that it was just a competition of ideas and that immediately the competition was over, they would all come together as one people.
He said if he assumes the Presidency, he would not sit at the office to delegate people to people to do his work, but he would go to every nook and cranny to identify the problems and profess solutions.
He added that in as much as he would sit down with various sectors in the country and dialogue with them about how to solve their problems, he would also enagage the artisans and musicians. "If I become the President of this nation, you have nothing to be afraid of. I will sit down with you just as I will sit down with the manufacturers, carpenters and others to package your products," he assured.
He however, expressed regret over how politicians take advantage of the musicians without adequately rewarding them.
All the musicians gathered were pleased with the interaction of the CPP Candidate and promised to do their best for the party, so that their nagging issues would be addressed.
