Nairobi — Mobile phone operator, Safaricom has said that it will soon announce new value addition features on its money transfer service, M-Pesa.
This, the company said, follows an upgrade of the system last weekend. The company did not, however, name them. It assured its M-Pesa subscribers the service will be back to normal soon.
Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph said: "As part of our commitment to providing Safaricom customers enhanced services and with new ways of using their phones and M-Pesa accounts, planned upgrades like last weekend's are essential."
Upgraded systems
The company upgraded systems over the weekend, and normal services were expected on Sunday but some customers were still experiencing difficulties on Monday.
Mr Joseph said that the upgrade took longer than expected, and that Safaricom was in the process of optimising the system to restore normal services in the shortest possible time.
Safaricom launched the electronic money transfer service in partnership with Vodafone last year. In September this year, the service facilitated the transfer of over Sh9.61 billion between customers.
