Luanda — The Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, Wednesday here set up a work team tasked with creating material and legal conditions to support the repatriation of Angolan citizens living abroad and analyse the legal framework of foreigners residing in the country under refugee status.
This presidential despatch is in the line with the recommendations from the 59th session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, held last October in Geneva, Switzerland.
The recently created task team is coordinated by the minister of Foreign Affairs and includes representatives from the ministries of National Defence, Home Affairs, Justice and Social Welfare.
The team should, among other attributions, present the proposals of the quantitative necessary for the assumption by the Angolan Government of the costs of the organised and voluntary repatriation of the Angolan refugees who wish to return home.
It is also assigned to analyse the legal framework of Congolese citizens who are living in Angola under refugee status and establish the mechanisms for eventual cessation of this status.
