Uganda: KICC Earn Super Six Promotion

Kampala — 1998 National League champions Kampala Institute of Cricket Clubs (KICC) will have a chance to reclaim the title after they earned promotion to next year's Castle Lager Super Six League over the weekend.

The Sudhir Ruparelia funded KICC ousted hosts Jinja Association of Cricket Clubs (JACC) by 71 runs at Jinja oval to win the lone ticket at stake for one Plate League team to earn a place in the highly competitive and elite Super Six League in 2009. The win helped KICC ascend to 42 points with one fixture against Castle Development to play in a fortnight.

KICC last won the league when Uganda's leading batsman Nehal Bibodi was skipper and had an array of stars including Keyur Padiya and Bharat Ghodadra. Early this year, Ghodadra recruited national opening bowler Daniel Ruyange and former national star Henry Kato and together with the mainstays like Kamal Shazad and Milap Makwama, they have achieved greatness and will have a shot at the biggest local prize next year.

The main challengers Kutchimadu, Patidar Samaj and youthful Charity cannot catch up despite having two games in hand apiece. They can only finish second as KICC boast of a superior net run rate and their last fixture is against a lowly Castle that sits at the bottom of the log with just six points. In the other Plate League fixture, Kutchimadu handed Premier a 91-run thrashing in a rain-interrupted derby in Lugogo.
