Uganda: K'jong Warriors Kill Four People

Mbale — Four civilians were reportedly shot dead and two others injured by Karimojong warriors of Pien ethnic origin in Iriiri Sub-county in Moroto District, army sources have said.

The civilians all Bokora, an ethnic group in Karamoja sub-region were killed last Thursday in an attack that took place at the controversial boarder point between Katakwi and Moroto districts.

The RDC Moroto, Mr Nahman Ojwee, confirmed the attack saying it might have been a revenge attack as assailants did not take anything away. "But these are the usual crimes we are battling in Karamoja where people take the law in their hands and take revenge on others," Mr Ojwee said.

The attack comes barely four months after Moroto had registered 52 killings in a single month through ethnic clashes between the Pien, Bokora and Matheniko.

Mr Ojwee said whenever one tribe raids cattle from another, the warriors do not report the case to the Police or army but engage in counter attacks without the knowledge of the army.
