Uganda: Govt Revives Youth Institute

4 November 2008

Kasese — The Government is to resurrect the Mubuku Youth Institute which has been dormant for over 30 years. The vocational institute, which was started in the 1960s, was formerly under the National Union Youth Organisation.

The institute, located in Maliba sub-county, was abandoned in 1985. Kasese district vice-chairman, Joshua Masereka, said: "The institute will initially admit 70 Primary Seven leavers who have a pass in mathematics and could not join the Universal Secondary Education due to economic hardships."

He said the Government would sponsor the courses, which will include carpentry, tailoring, computer technology and welding, while the district will provide academic and non-academic staff.
