Uganda: Church Seeks to Raise Sh1 Billion

Kasese — Bishop Egidio Nkaijanabwo of Kasese Catholic Diocese has launched a campaign to raise at least sh1b for the construction of a new Cathedral in Kasese town.

The campaign was launched on Sunday during mass. "We must build a new Cathedral because the current one is too small for us. Each of us should contribute what we can," Nkaijanabwo urged followers.

He called upon the Christians never to lose hope. While introducing the construction committee, the Diocesan treasurer, the Rev. Fr. Frumas Kule, said the construction of the new Cathedral was going to be the biggest project to be undertaken by the Christians in the Diocese.

According to population figures with Kasese district local government, Catholics are about 46% of the district population of 600,000.
