Uganda: Kibirige Son Among Four for Dec. Poll

Kampala — ROBERT Kasule Sebunya, the son of former agriculture minister Kibirige Ssebunya, is one of the four candidates nominated yesterday to run for the Kyadondo North parliamentary seat.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Ssebunya last month. Others nominated are Sentamu Mukasa Sewandagi (Peoples' Progressive Party), Democratic Party's Regina Bakitte and FDC's Grace Nakabuye.

Kasule, dressed in a grey suit and hat, was accompanied to Wakiso sub-county hall by supporters waving yellow posters. He was nominated at 3:22pm. He promised to pick up from where Ssebunya stopped by empowering the people economically. Nominations continue today.

Candidates expected to be nominated today are Umar Katanku, Moses Kibalama, Kizito Nsubuga and John Kakonge, who are all independents, and Social Democratic Party's Ismail Ddumba.

Conservative party and Uganda People's Congress are backing the FDC Candidate under the Inter-party Cooperation.

"The bye-elections are also going to be used to fill all other vacant positions in the constituency," said Wakiso returning officer Margaret Kugonza.
