Uganda: Kakira Sugar Works to Go Public

Kampala — KAKIRA Sugar Works will in the next two years offer shares to the public, the managing director, Mayur Madhvani, has said.

"We are working hard to turn Kakira Sugar Works into a bigger national asset. We are soon going to allow Ugandans to buy shares and be part of Kakira," he said.

Madhvani was addressing traders who sale Kakira Sugar Works products, at the factory on Saturday.

Traders from Kampala, Mbale, Jinja, Iganga and Soroti districts attended the meeting.

He hailed the traders for their support.

He said about 140,000 to 150,000 tonnes of sugar would be produced this year, which he said was the highest production level since the company was started.

"We are trying to deliver sugar in various areas of the country to reduce on transport costs," he said.

The traders appealed to the factory management to ensure a cordial relationship between them and customers.
