Nigeria: Nicon Insurance Seeks Partnership With Banks

NICON Insurance Plc has commenced moves to remain a leader in the nation's insurance industry. To this end, the underwriting giant has embarked on a partnership drive with banks in line with its resolve to remain a force to be reckoned with in the highly competitive insurance industry.

Group Managing Director, NICON Group, Mrs. Catherine Okpareke, who led the management team of the firm on courtesy visits to the headquarters of Skye Bank Plc and FinBank Plc in Lagos, stated that NICON remains in a comfortable position to discharge its responsibilities to all stakeholders.

She told the banks' executives that NICON has bounced back having been engrossed with recapitalisation challenges.

Okpareke, therefore, solicited a cordial relationship business partnership with the banks, noting that the company's assets base stands at over N50 billion, with shareholders funds in excess of N25 billion, thereby, placing the company on a formidable platform for business transactions.

Said she: "It is not gainsaying that NICON Insurance is the biggest insurance company in Nigeria, with an assets base of over N50 billion and shareholders funds in excess of N25 billion.

NICON Insurance has over 60 branches nationwide with 99 offices and we are also currently, embarking on massive branch expansion. That puts us in a position for good business."

She noted that the company, as part of its efforts towards the achievement of the Financial Sector Strategy (FSS) Vision 2020, is developing products that will drive its operations.

The NICON boss maintained that company has the largest reinsurance treaty in the country, therefore, placed it top in risks underwriting.

The Managing Director, FinBank Plc, Mr. Okey Nwosu, pledged the bank's commitment to collaborate with NICON and ensure that its insurable risks are appropriated effectively to ensure that NICON has its fair share of the divide.

He maintained that, though the company has insurance subsidiaries - Standard Alliance Plc and Yankari Insurance, it would ensure that its risks are effectively distributed.

The Managing Director, Skye Bank Plc, Mr. Akinsola Akinfemiwa welcomed the partnership with NICON and pledged that the company would through brokers ensure its insurable risks are underwritten by NICON which has been noted to be the flagship of the insurance sector.
