Two middle-aged men,Lasun Johnson, a mechanic and Kabiru Mohammed, a trader were yesterday arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate Court on allegations of assaulting a policewoman and vandalizing official vehicles of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB).
Court Clerk, Mr Abubakar Alaku, while reading out the police report informed the court that on October 29, one Mr Bitrus Yusuf of AEPB reported to the police that on the same date, the first and second accused persons and others now at large jointly attacked their team, vandalized their operation vehicles, that bore registration numbers CT 151 A11 and CT 673 A11.
"The value of the damages done by the accused persons is not yet known," the clerk stated.
The clerk also informed the court that the accused persons and others at large also beat -up a female police officer, Sergeant Christiana Ojiri, to the extent that she sustained serious injuries on her hand.
When the charges were read to the accused persons, they denied them and requested for bail.
Magistrate Idayat Akanni granted them bail each in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety each that must reside within the court's jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to November 19 for hearing.
In another case, a man was yesterday aarraigned for allegedly breaking into a house.
The man, Godwin Okoh was accused of breaking into the house of one Choho Musa Buba.
Prosecutor Joseph Ahua told the court that on September 29, the complainant discovered that his shop had been broken into by an unknown person, who made away with GSM recharge cards of about N659, 570.
He listed the items stolen as MTN recharge cards, valued at N251,070; Zain recharge cards of N187,700; Glo recharge cards of N213, 200; Visafone recharge cards of N4, 800; three Glo lines valued at N1,360; six MTN lines valued at 1,400 and cash of N28,000.
The prosecutor further added that the complainant suspected the accused person, who resides in the compound.
When the charges were read to the accused, he denied them and his counsel request for bail.
Magistrate Ali Chanbo granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety that must be resident within the court's jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to November 6 for hearing.
