Monrovia — The beauty pageant for the selection of Miss-Liberia 2008/09 has been launched in Monrovia.
At the formal launching program Sunday night held at Duje Vu Club in Sinkor, Monrovia, the head of Ms. Boss Lady Entertainment International, Barkue Tubman, said this year's event is intended to select someone who would ably represent Liberia.
She said the event would be held under the theme: "Woman with Substance", and noted "we want a Miss Liberia who will be a woman of substance and truly represents our country."
Ms. Tubman said contestants for the prestigious crown would represent the 15 counties so as to ensure that the citizenry embrace the eventual winner.
She told the gathering that several activities have been planned for this year's Miss Liberia event slated for December 20, including television talk-shows featuring the contestants, parading the principal streets of Monrovia with the contestants, among others.
Ms. Tubman is calling on the people of Liberia to fully support this year's Miss Liberia process.
The Media Relation Officer of the event, Sylvester Browne said the selection process of those who would participate in this year's pageant would begin November 6-9.
According to him, the selection of the contestants would only be done in Monrovia given time constraint.
However, he said the organizers of the event would ensure that every county is represented.
For her part, Assistant Information Minister for Tourism, Scholarstical Doe pledged government's support to the successful holding of the event.
Grand Bassa County Superintendent, Julia Duncan-Cassell who also spoke at the program said, "we need a woman of substance who will represent the women of Liberia in the international community, so I called on the women of Liberia to rise up and support the process so that at the end of the day, the person who will be selected would truly represent us."
She said during the Dum-boy Festival in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, the 15 contestants would be showcased at the event to give residents an opportunity to see them.
