The attention of the Power Holding Company (PHCN) engineers is needed at the transformer at Mojisola Bus Stop on Oyemekun Street, Ifako, Ogba.
The transformer supplies electricity to not less than three streets in the area and has developed fault that makes it explode every now and then. The transformer is sited very close to residential houses and once it explodes, people start panicking that one day it will affect their lives. The light situation in the area is usually four days on and one day off and for this, PHCN officials come to change this line when it is time to turn off light to another area. The residents are complaining that the incessant tampering with the transformer might not be unconnected with this ugly scenario. Or perhaps the transformer is too old for the workload it is carrying.
In any case, the frequency and the intensity of sparks is gradually becoming unbearable.
Few weeks ago, more than five electricity poles connected to the transformer started sparking at the same time around 8:30 p.m. Some parts of the area have been having problem of light since that explosion and it seems nothing is being done to rectify the situation.
More worrisome is the fact that the explosion at times occurs about 6.00am when most residents are still on bed, which exposes them to more danger in case the explosion affects household electrical appliances apart from disturbing their sleep.
