Angola: Independence Brought Responsibilities to Defence Institutions

Luanda — The deputy minister of war veterans and former combatants, Clemente Canjuca this Wednesday here affirmed that the achievement of independence, 11 November 1975, brought great responsibilities to institutions that defend the country, with emphasis to the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA).

Speaking during a symposium under the theme "Independence, a major victory for the Angolan people", meant for FAA militaries, the source referred that with this achievement, Angola became a reference in the struggle against colonialism in Africa.

He highlighted the engagement of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, and of MPLA, in the struggle for the liberation of Angolans from the Portuguese colonial control.

"The proclamation of Angola's independence has a name that is not erased from the memory of the people; that of President Agostinho Neto, who played a vital role in the national liberation struggle, mainly overseas", he explained.

Clement Canjunka urged former combatants and participants of the process that led to the country's independence to transmit their experiences to the new generations, so that they really know the Angola's history, mainly in the national liberation struggle.
