Uganda: Minister Warns on Microfinance

5 November 2008

Kampala — THE state minister for economic monitoring, Maurice Kagimu-Kiwanuka, has decried the mushrooming microfinance institutions that are conning the unsuspecting public.

Many of them, he said, seek support from influential people by offering them loans. RDCs should, therefore, defend the public's interests by avoiding being compromised, he said.

Kagimu was speaking during a training workshop for central region district internal security organisation officials, RDCs and their deputies at Colline Hotel Mukono recently.

He also urged the RDCs to monitor the NAADS project, saying it had been mismanaged in the past.

The RDCs decried poor facilitation, which, they said, was hindering them from executing their duties.
