Ghana: Hearts Revert to Old Ways

5 November 2008

Accra Hearts of Oak have gone for the same old method of appointing an Interim Management Committee after the chaos of the last few weeks.

The Hearts Board of Directors say Thomas Okine, a former chief executive, Frank Nelson who is vice chairman of the board and Isaac Tetteh a former management member will constitute a three-man interim management team that will be required to put the Phobians in shape for the November 23rd league kick off and make them competitive.

Hearts board secretary Ernest Thompson says the two will be in charge of the day-to-day running of the club until a time when the club appoints a substantive chief executive.

Hearts have been in ruins effectively since the end of the last season as board members openly traded blows and some questioned the effectiveness of the former chief executive Vincent Odotei before he was forced to quit.

There is still a constituency of the club deeply unhappy with the role of the board in the events but Thompson, himself for long periods at odds with Odotei says the interim arrangement is the best for the Phobians.

"The three will be responsible for recruiting and running the day-to-day administration of the club until a chief executive is found," Board-secretary," Ernest Thompson said.

"The fans will have to understand that this is how the problems at the club can be dealt with for now. They will report directly to the board. We can't specifically say when will appoint a chief executive."
