Luanda — The Angolan Government is implementing a program for the betterment of living standards of former combatants and war veterans, taking into account their contribution to the process that led to the proclamation of the country's independence.

Speaking to Angop on Wednesday, on the sidelines of a talk about the importance of November 11, 1975, the vice minister of Former Combatants and War Veterans, Clemente Canjunca, said that the Angolan State has created four legal tools to resolve the problems of the former combatants, namely Blood Pensions, FAA Social Security Fund, Future Pension Fund and General Regime of Social Security.

The Government official stated that there are direct aids, such as building of houses, to alleviate suffering faced by the former combatants and war veterans in the country.

To the deputy minister, the former combatant must be seen as "a fighter for the country, a man that struggled for the independence, he deserves respect and must keep head raised".

Clemente Canjunca explained that they (former combatants) should pass, with satisfaction, their experiences on to new generations, so that they get acquainted with the history of Angola, particularly the struggle for national liberation.

Angola attained its independence from Portugal on November 11, 1975.
