Angola: Army to Assist Identifying Former Combatants, War Veterans

5 November 2008

Luanda — The Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) will cooperate in identifying the former combatants and war veterans from different movements of National Liberation Struggle, for their wellbeing.

This was said Wednesday in Luanda, by the Chief of FAA General Staff, Francisco Furtado, on the sidelines of a workshop on the importance of November 11, the National Independence's day, lectured by the vice-minister of former Combatants and War Veterans, Clemente Canjunca.

"To us it is good to work toward harmonisation of data bases in order to distinguish the former combatants and war veterans, because we find it of extreme importance on their real definition", stressed the FAA chief of staff, who called for the need to safeguard the rights of those who made efforts and sacrifice, some of them lost their lives for the country's independence.

He also added that the same programme, is aimed, among others, at endowing "respect, prestigious and preservation of the conquest of our independence", in the mentality of young soldiers.
