Angola: ASAC Official Highlights Obama's Election in USA

Luanda — The general secretary of the Angola-Cuba Friendship Association (ASAC), Fernando Jaime, this Wednesday here said that the election of an Afro-American as president of the United States of America (USA) represents an important worldwide political deed.

Speaking to ANGOP, Fernando Jaime wished that Barack Obama's election to the highest rank of the most powerful nation of the world will help underdeveloped and African countries to increase their self-esteem and determination.

"We are convinced that international relations during president Obama's mandate shall be more humanised and harmonious", he said, predicting that the new North-American leader will lift the embargo against Cuba, considering its dimension as "extra-territorial" that has been affecting the peaceful people of the Island in a dramatic manner.

The source reminded that Cubans participated actively in the consolidation of Angola's independence and during this period they showed a deep humanism and spirit of solidarity, "thereby justifying our special care to this Caribbean nation", he referred.
