Ebonyi State Government says it is determined to rid the state as dumping ground for adulterated petroleum products.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Solid Mineral Development, Dr. Ifeanyi Ikeh, said his office is adequately equipped by the state government to ensure that Ebonyi is not a place for adulterated products.
"Since we impounded a tanker conveying adulterated diesel last month, there has been no report of such case in the state", he said.
Ikeh remarked that the enhancement of investigative procedures adopted by his office in issues relating to adulterated petroleum has started yielding the required dividends.
"In the case of the impounded taker for instance, we conducted our internal investigation, after which we took samples of the product for further tests at the NNPC depot in Enugu and the directorate for petroleum resources", he said.
The Special Adviser noted that the results of the tests conformed with theirs, which confirmed the product as adulterated, stressing that the tanker is still in the custody of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state..
He used the opportunity to thank the state government for its support and the NSCDC, for its collaborative effort in checking the activities of these economic saboteurs in the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in the state, Mr. Godwin Sarki, confirmed that the product of the impounded tanker was adulterated and that tanker was still in its custody.
He said that the Corps would institute legal charges against the owner of the tanker, once the necessary documentations to that effect were completed.
