Uganda: Four Nominated For Kyadondo Seat

Kampala — Four people were yesterday nominated to contest for Kyadondo North constituency, which fell vacant following the death last month of the Agriculture State Minister, Dr Kibirige Ssebunya.

The nominees include Mr Robert Kasule Ssebunya, the son of the late Kibirige, who was nominated on the ticket of the ruling NRM party. Others are Ms Pauline Nakabuye of FDC will represent inter-party coalition, Mr Ssentamu Ssewandagi (Peoples' Progressive Party) and Regina Bakitte of the Democratic Party.

Parties belonging to the Inter Party Coalition agreed to back the FDC candidate, but DP President Mr John Ssebaana Kizito, who accompanied Ms Bakitte, rejected the idea of fielding a single candidate saying their party is registered and has the mandate to win the race.

"We have an independent registered party, why should we join other factions to weaken our party strength?" Mr Ssebaana asked. After nomination, all candidates promised to front Buganda Kingdom issues once elected to parliament. The elections are expected to take place on December 1.
