Ghana: D.G. Hathiramani Table Tennis Championships

As part of preparations towards the African Seniors Table Tennis Championships to be held in Kinshasa, DR. Congo, from November 20-30, the Ghana Table Tennis Association has scheduled a special two-day all-play-all competition involving 16 Male and eight Female National Ranked players, to be able to select four players each from the male and female participants, for final Residential camping towards the Africa championship.

The Hathiramani National Top 16 Championship will be held from November 11-12, 2008, at the D.G Hathiramani Sports Hall, at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium from 10am to 6 pm each day, a statement signed by the association's Secretary General, Kwame Amponfi Jnr has said.

The following players make up the qualified competitors in order of ranking; Derek Abrefa - Ghana Immigration Service, Raymond Donkor - Ghana Police Service, Ernest Quarcoo - Greater Accra, Mohammed Ali Jnr. ,Agona Swedru, Central Region, Joe Sam - CEPS, Emmanuel Commey - Ghana Immigration Service, Eric Addo - CEPS, Eric Agyeman - Ghana Police Service, Courage Nanevi - Ghana Navy, Sekondi Takoradi and Felix Lartey - Ghana Immigration Service , Lamptey Mills - Ghana Police Service,Kobina Essel - Ghana Air force, Acquah Aikins - Ghana Navy, Sekondi Takoradi, Samuel Akayade - Koforidua Sec. Tech, Asafo-Adjei Felix Ghana Air force and Solomon Akornor - CEPS make up the male team.

For the female side, Akosua Ketu - Agona Swedru, Central Region (Now at Sunyani Poly), Cynthia Kwabi - Ghana Immigration Service, Lynda Annor - Ghana Immigration Service, Afua Oforiwah Owusu Agyei - CEPS, Bernice Borquaye - Ghana Navy, Sekondi Takoradi, Abigail Tetteh - Ghana Immigration Service, Beatrice Gyasi - Ghana Police Service and Francisca Amankrah - Ghana National Fire Service, Apam.

The tournament is being sponsored to the tune of GH¢1,500.00 by the Estate of D.G Hathiramani, through Dr. S.A. Quaye and Mr. Emmanuel Okai with support from the National Sports Council and Aqua-in Water Company Residential camping for the top 4 male and 4 female finalists continues after the championship till November 20, when team Ghana which is composed of 4 male players and 4 female players as well as 6 officials will depart for Kinshasa under the sponsorship of the National Sports Council and the Ministry of Education Science and Sports. The entire Table Tennis contingent will return on December 2, 2008. The Association kindly requests for more support, both in cash and in kind, from public spirited individuals and organisations to ensure the successful preparations of the Black Loopers towards the DR.
