Uganda: Eight Drown in Mukono Accident

Kampala — EIGHT people on Tuesday evening drowned in River Musamya at the border between Kayunga and Mukono districts, after the canoe they were sailing in capsised.

The canoe was carrying 12 passengers who were crossing from Kayunga to Namayuba village in Mukono to attend a burial ceremony. It also carried three motorcycles.

The dead were identified as Hakim Ssekitto, Bakari Muyomba, Rajab Mutebi, Abasi Kiganda andâ-‚one unidentified woman with three children.

By Tuesday, the Police and other helpers had recovered the bodies of Ssekitto, Muyomba, Mutebi and Kiganda.

"The search for the bodies ofâ-‚the woman andâ-‚the threeâ-‚children is still going on," the district Police commander, Richard Emuna, said, adding that the boat was overloaded.
