Uganda: Housing Finance Boosts Juniors Team

Kampala — THE Housing Finance Bank has boosted the national badminton junior team with two air tickets for their trip to the Africa Junior Championships.

Uganda intends ti field four players and a coach to the second edition of the annual event due November 23-30 in Cairo, Egypt.

Housing Finance managing director Nicholas Okwir handed over a dummy cheque of sh2.6m to the badminton federation's chairman William Tumwine during a brief function at the company's headquarters at Buganda Road yesterday.

Okwir promised more support to badminton in an effort of attracting and developing talent from the grassroots. Housing Finance also partly sponsored the semi finalists to last year's event in Pretoria, South Africa.

The team has Herbert Ebayo, Daniel Muhigo and Daisy Nakalyango fresh from the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India, and Brendah Mugabi, with William Kabindi as their coach.

A training workshop has been organised for the juniors November 22-22 before the tournament kicks off.

In another development, Bugema University has teamed up with Kampala Club to organise a one-day open badminton gala that is due Sunday at the Club. Registration is on at the cub's premises.
