Uganda: Falcons, Warriors to Clash in Last Four

Kampala — Kyambogo Warriors have a chance of inflicting revenge on Falcons when the two sides clash in the MTN-Fuba League semifinal play-offs that get underway on June 11 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

Warriors bitterly lost 3-2 to Falcons after taking a 2-0 lead in last season's best of five final series. But Warriors got the better of Falcons 76-64 on Wednesday to emerge this year's regular season champions.

Though Falcons still have one game to play (against Gulu Hawks), they can only finish fourth in the standings, pairing them against the table toppers Warriors. "It's going to be a very tough challenge. They have been champions before for many years, which makes them a very tough team," Warriors coach Otieno Musana said yesterday.

Musana is also optimistic his charges can gain revenge after last year's experience. "Most players learnt good lessons from last season. They have now matured while our bench has also grown in strength," added Musana.

Falcons, who travel to Gulu today, are struggling for form having lost to Marines and Warriors in a space of five days but that is no big concern for the champions. "We are not well set at the moment but I am sure Warriors are not happy to meet us in the play-offs again. It's at this level that we usually rise to the occasion," Falcons' patron John Ssimbwa said.

High flying Sadolin Power will face UCU Canons in the other men's semifinal while women's reigning champions KCC Leopards entertain A-1 Challenge. UCU Lady Canons have an easy passage to the final as they face struggling KIU Rangers who have lost their two most influential players.

The Canons finished the regular season in second after winning 17 games whereas the Rangers could only manage 16 wins. Rangers finished third and A-1 Challenge fourth.
