According to the note, the decision emerges from the first seminar of conservation of CPLP protected areas, held on November 03-04 in Mozambique, where the representatives of CPLP member countries recommended to the respective governments to assume responsibility in the promotion of a representative network for these areas.

The document points out for the need of the member governments to assume the responsibilities in the implementation of legislative policies and researches able to promote the conservation and development of a representative network of the protected areas and to take care of the biodiversity.

The representatives of the governments and civil society of Angola, Brazil, Cape-Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor, also defended the creation and establishment of a commission of protected areas within the CPLP, in order to facilitate and coordinate the cooperation among the member states.

The event served as a starting point for CPLP countries to join in the resolutions from the Green Congress, held in Barcelona, Spain, where was defined a programme of conservation of biodiversity as basis for development of effective strategic interventions for the implementation of a sustainable global agenda in the economy and markets, as well as areas and climate changes, energy, poverty and food security.

The Angolan delegation at Maputo summit was headed by the deputy minister of Environment, Luís Mota Liz, who also attended another seminar on Ecotourism, a sector linked to areas with natural resources, preservation of environment, biodiversity, and is a modern tool so that the countries show their culture, values and riches.
