Jos — Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-General Abdulrahaman Danbazau, has warned the the rank and file to devise other means of addressing their grievances instead of going on strike, as there are laid down procedures to seek redress.
Danbazau, who was on a working visit, stated this yesterday, when he addressed soldiers at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment of the 3rd Armoured Division, Jos, adding that whoever is aggrieved should follow the procedures where such grievances would be appropriately handled.
He said he would do his best to ensure that he leaves the Army better than he met it, and ensure that it does not go below what he inherited.
He told the soldiers to protect the country's territorial integrity and subject themselves to civil authority as spelt out in the Constitution, adding that they must not fail in their responsibility, if they are called upon to aid civil authority to quench an internal crisis.
Meanwhile, Governor of Plateau State, David Jonah Jang, has pledged his continued support to the Army.
He also commended the Army for fully understanding its role of defending the country and its loyalty to civil rule. He said since the inception of civil rule in 1999, the armed forces have firmly stood by their oath of defending the nation and not to lead as was the case when the country witnessed several military regimes.
Jang said civil rule has greatly reduced suspicion within the military and restored confidence in the armed forces.
