Nigeria: Sokoto Executes N12 Billion Road Projects

Lagos — SOKOTO State Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Shehu Hamzat said that the government was rehabilitating 336.45 km roads worth more than N12 billion.

He said during a press briefing in Sokoto that N1.5 billion of the money was for the construction of a fly-over across Abdullahi Fodio and Gusau road roundabouts in the metropolis.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Bello Abubakar, Tangaza said that the 20 km Bodinga - Kilgori - Bakale road would gulp N750 million while the 16 km Fakka - Gudurega - Bingaje - Yabo II road would cost N544.6 million.

"N1.362 billion is for the 17 km Wurno-Hudu - Tambagarka - Nasarawa road while N1.214 billion will be used for the 52km Gidan Sale - Tidibale - Mailalle road," he said.

According to Tangaza, N678.9 million was set aside for the ongoing 24 km Arkilla - Gumbi - Wamakko - Kalambaina road project.

He said that Illela-Gada, Randi - Katami, Yar-Abba - Fanare - Badawa and Sokoto - Illela roads were among the roads being reconstructed.

Others include, the Ahmadu Bello Way , Marmaron - Nufawa - Runfar Dankawu and roundabout Mairuwa to Sokoto welcome gate.

Meanwhile, the 1,000 housing units being constructed by the state government at Bado and Mana-Babba areas of Sokoto city at the cost N5 billion are nearing completion.

The houses are made up of 2 and 3 - bedroom duplexes and would be sold to civil servants on owner - occupier basis.
