Kampala — ARUA Municipality MP, Akbar Godi was on Wednesday questioned over accusations of beating up and attempting to shoot a local government official in Arua.

Godi, a member of the Forum for Democratic Change, arrived at Criminal Investigations Directorate headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala at 10:30am.

With his lawyer and counterpart, Erias Lukwago, they proceeded to the general crimes section where Godi, who left at midday, recorded a charge and caution statement.

Detectives summoned the legislator over allegations of assaulting Oli councillor, Mohammed Bosco in August 2007.

But Godi denied the charges and accused Bosco of being an 'agent' of his political rival. "These claims are politically engineered," he stated, adding that he was in the US on the day Bosco was reportedly beaten.

Godi also refuted reports of trying to shoot Bosco, saying he does not possess a gun.

"I applied for a gun sometime back but the application has not succeeded because the documents are still with Police," he told Saturday Vision at Kibuli.

Godi, 26, became a legislator in 2006. He is the youngest legislator in the eighth Parliament.
