Uganda: Mirembe Wins Music Contest

Kampala — IT was fun, joy, merry-making and smiles as winners of the first Kampala City Council pre-primary music festival were announced. Mirembe Nursery School, Namuwongo, emerged best in the district at the function held at Bat Valley Primary School last Thursday.

Mirembe represented Makindye Division after defeating 26 schools at the division competitions. It beat four other schools from Nakawa, Lubaga, Kampala Central and Kawempe. The festivals will be held every year.

Good Times Kawala, which represented Lubaga Division, came second. In third position was Decorous Nursery School from Kawempe Division.

Our Lady of Fatima, Nakawa, emerged fifth and Rorarick Kindergarten from Kampala Central was the last.

The youngsters in their tender age, 3-8 years entertained guests with rhymes, plays, songs and poems. Kampala City Council gave the winners gifts, which included books, pens, pencils, lanterns and basins.

The music festival will be an annual event and all pre-primary schools will have a chance to participate.

Schools within Kampala's five divisions will compete and the winner will represent the division in the final competitions.
