Kampala — MPS want husbands to seek permission from their spouses before mortgaging the family land.
While reviewing the Mortgage Bill 2007, this week, members of the committee on physical infrastructure explained that the Bill had proposed that husbands seek consent from their wives before mortgaging land where the matrimonial home was located, but MPs want to broaden this to include all family land.
The Bill provides laws for the use of land as security to borrow money.
It regulates the relationships between banks, lenders and borrowers.
