Uganda: 14 Pupils Charged With Cheating in PLE

Kampala — FOURTEEN pupils were on Thursday charged with cheating in the recently concluded Primary Leaving Examinations. (PLE).

They appeared before Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate John Wekesa and were released on court bond after denying the charges.

They had been in custody at the Central Police Station. Kafuuzi Kwemara, their lawyer, pleaded for their release, saying they were aged between 13 and 14 and would be affected by prison conditions.

Charged before the same court were three of their teachers, with disclosing the content of examination materials. They are Peter Mutebi, Godwin Mark Ongeso and Damali Nalwanga. They were granted cash bail of sh200,000.

Prosecutor Stephen Asaba said the pupils falsely presented themselves at Kazo Mixed Primary School as P7 candidates. He added that the pupils, on November 3 conspired to cheat in the exams at the Kazo Primary School.

Dressed in their uniform, the pupils appeared calm and unmoved as the charges were read to them in the Magistrate's chambers.
