Residents of Kinkizi West in Kanungu District yesterday took to Kihiihi Town Council streets to celebrate Security Minister Amama Mbabazi's exoneration by Parliament of any wrongdoing in the controversial Shs11 billion NSSF-Temangalo land deal.

The residents, who were closely following the parliamentary proceedings on radio and phone, were overjoyed when Parliament cleared Mr Mbabazi together with Finance Minister Ezra Suruma who were accused of influence peddling.

According to Mr Mbabazi's political assistant Robert Barigye the residents of Kinkizi West believed their legislator was being targeted by disgruntled people who were envious of the successes he has registered over the years in his political career. "All along we have always argued that our MP was 'Mr Clean' but some people who wanted to end his political career have been pushing for his censure. They must now be ashamed," Mr Barigye told Mr Mbabazi's supporters who had gathered at his constituency offices in Kihiihi Town.

Mr Mbabazi has not been to his constituency since the NSSF-Temangalo scandal came to the fore. He even missed to host President Museveni when he visited the district in September although the president pitched camp at his home for five days. Opposition MPs walked out of Parliament after the ruling.
