Angola: Independence Proclamation Marks Elevation of Local Dignity, Nationality

Luanda — The day that the National Independence was proclaimed, November 11, marks the elevation of the dignity of Angolans in the context of sovereign nations, affirmed the MP Irene Neto.

Speaking to ANGOP in light of the date's 33rd anniversary, to be celebrated next Tuesday, the parliamentarian of the ruling MPLA party stressed the deeds of those of participated in the national liberation struggle, mainly those who perished in favour of the nation.

She added that the proclamation of Angola's independence enabled it to be recognised as a country. "In these years, it became an example to African nations and not only, chiefly through its strategy in solving internal conflicts, by showing that pacification and political stability is also possible through dialogue", affirmed the official.

Irene Neto defended that the history should be transmitted, in a deep and continuous manner to the new generation, so that they can understand it, academically, and compare its importance and repercussion worldwide.

The MP reminded that, having directly suffered the consequences of the apartheid, at the time in force in South Africa, Angola contributed to the struggle against racial segregation, being part of main encouragers of racial revolutions, whose results are now evident, an example being the elections of Barack Obama, as the first black USA president.

Irene Neto equally stressed the definitive peace in the country, which was achieved six years ago, shinning like a star in the continent and in the world, since Angola is consolidating more its democratic system, evidenced by the holding of free and peaceful legislative elections last September 05.
