Kampala — FUFA has asked the regional soccer governing body CECAFA not to include two guest teams to this year's Senior Challenge Cup in order to cut costs.

CECAFA and tournament sponsors GTV had planned to invite two countries from either the continent or Middle East to join the Challenge Cup due in Kampala next month.

The Uganda football association spokesman Rogers Mulindwa said yesterday they were advising against the invitation because of its financial implications. The federation would need an extra sh200m to host two more teams.

"The power to invite more countries belongs to CECAFA but we are opposed to it because of its financial implications. When you look at the budget, we are already constrained," Mulindwa said yesterday.

CECAFA and GTV a fortnight ago announced sh997m sponsorship package for the tournament to take care of air tickets for the participating teams, their accommodation, internal transport, prizes and other logistics.

Mulindwa said that the money did not have provision to accommodate more entrants into the tournament.

The tournament local organising committee chaired by Jowali Kyeyago is set to meet CECAFA general secretary Nicholas Musonye to discuss the issue.

FUFA is currently hunting for sponsors including a group of hotels to book the teams in.

The Challenge Cup draws are set for this week at FUFA House.
