Luanda — The deputy governor of Luanda, Bento Soito, Saturday, in Aberdeen, Scotland called on the members of the World Energy Cities Partnership (WECEP) for the strengthening of cooperation and interchange of experiences in fields such as development, urban planning, health and education.
Speaking at the annually meeting of WECEP held on November 5-8 in the Scottish capital, on behalf of the Provincial Government of Luanda, Bento Soito considered as vital for Luanda the cooperation in the above mentioned areas, taking account the problems related to super population, that the Angolan capital is facing, caused by the military conflict.
According to the source, Luanda was conceived for only 500,000 inhabitants, but it is currently hosting more than six million people, whose living quality the government is improving, identifying and implementing the best solutions for their increment.
With a delegation comprising the General Consul of Angola in Houston, Simão Pedro, and technicians of the government, the session was preceded by Luanda meeting, held in October 2007 that elected for the next two years the chairperson and deputy chairperson of the WECEP for the cities of Damman (Saudi Arab) and Luanda (Angola).
WECEP was established in 1997 and is headquartered in Houston (Texas). It is a multi-continental organisation, with 15 members and main objective is the promotion of multifacetic cooperation between the member cities.
The member cities of WECEP are Aberdeen (Scotland), Calgary (Canada), Damman (Saudi Arab), Daquing and Dongyng (China), Halif and St John (Canada), Houston (USA), Luanda (Angola), Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), Stranvenger (Norway), Vila Hermosa (Mexico), Perth (Australia), San Fernando (Trinidad and Tobago) and Port Harcort (Nigeria).
