Awka — Anambra state government has awarded a N360 million contract for the rehabilitation of Obizi water scheme abandoned several years ago.

Technical director of the contracting firm, Mr. Wolf Gang Bunde said the project would be completed in three months.

When completed, it would supply water to the communities in Aguata and Orumba local government areas.

Already the clearing of the site has begun. Unlike boreholes, surface water schemes like Obizi , supply r pure pipe-borne water uninterrupted once they are properly done.

The scheme would make use of surface water following the discovery that boreholes were difficult to realize in the Aguata area because of its peculiar terrain.

It would be the second water scheme to be realized by the Peter Obi-led administration as he has, in conjunction with the European Union, revitalized the Amawbia water scheme also abandoned for decades.
