Uganda: District Officials to Train at Kyankwanzi

Kampala — A TOTAL of 320 officials from different districts have gone for training at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.

The officials set off from Kololo Airstrip on Saturday under the guard of UPDF officers.

The officials to attend the 21-day course included assistant chief administrative officers, directors of production, development officers, district planners and statisticians. Each district sent four people.

An army officer said the district officials are expected to acquire skills in economic management and transformation.

"The training is part of the preparations for the implementation of the Bonna Bagaggawale (prosperity-for-all) programme," a source said.

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to deliver a lecture during the training.

In addition to Kyankwanzi's lecturers, ministers Ezra Suruma (finance), Kahinda Otafiire (local government) and Hope Mwesigye (state for local government) are also scheduled to teach the officials who are in charge of development in their districts.

Bona Bagaggawale is a government programme intended to boost household incomes through provision of low interest loans.

Since last year, different groups of local leaders, including sub-county chiefs, have been trained in implementing Bonna Bagaggawale but citizens are yet to benefit from the programme.
