Angola: National Arts and Culture Award Was Fair - Minister

8 November 2008

Luanda — The minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, considered as fair and well indicated the 2008 edition of the National and Culture and Arts Award, taking into account the work done by winning artists.

Speaking to the press at the end of a gala for the award of the prizes comprising statutes, merit diplomas and a cheque for Usd 35.000 for each winner, the minister mentioned that there is not reason for complaint against the decision of the jury, headed by historian Samuel Aço,

"From the reactions expressed here during the calling of the nominees onto the stage, I could perceive that every one is happy about the final indications. This prize is a recognition of the magnificent work done and the artists honoured have given proofs of the quality of their works," she stressed.

This year, the award was given to Paulo Flores in the category of music and Francisco Van-Dunem (plastic arts). A posthumous title went for the director of the Angola Public Television, Carlos Henriques, in the category of cinema and audio-visual, whereas Carlos

Manuel Lopes took the prize in the category of human and social sciences research.

Kamatemba, from Humpata, southern Huila province, won in the category of dance.
