Angola: Ambassador Foresees Increased Cooperation With USA

Washington — The Angolan ambassador to the United States of America, Josefina Diakite, on Thursday admitted, in Washington city, the existence of a favourable climate for the increase of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, after Barack Obama was elected as the new US president.

Speaking to Angola's radio and television stations and to BBC News, the Angolan diplomat referred that cooperation will not be restricted to the oil field, since the already defined programme of Barack Obama has a stable base and includes aspects part of the Angolan government's agenda.

According to her, there are favourable conditions to collaborate with USA in the fields of agriculture, fisheries and education, as priorities.

Regarding the agenda of cooperation with Africa, Josefina Pitra Diakite explained that the African diplomatic body to Washington was briefed by those involved in Obama's campaign on the interests to continue with the programmes and projects underway in the sectors of health, of African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and the millennium goals.

"All the work carried out with the African Diaspora during Obama's campaign, pleases us and it is a good sign of global integration", stressed the Angolan diplomat, adding that the US president elect's platform for cooperation with Africa also includes aspects related to the combat to poverty, good democratic governance, increased assistance to countries in conflict and assisting them in solving their problems..

To her, Barack Obama's victory meets the effort he made during the whole process.

As message for 33rd Angolan's National Independence anniversary to be commemorated next November 11, Josefina Pitra Diakite urged Angolans, everywhere, to celebrate the date, always remembering its importance to the country's history and to every individual.
