Congo-Kinshasa: Diplomat Highlights Angola's Engagement in Crisis Solution

Luanda — The ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Angola, Eric Paluku Kamanu, Friday in Luanda highlighted the engagement of the Angolan authorities in the search for a solution to the crisis prevailing in his country.

Eric Paluku Kamanu told Angop the Angolan authorities have all along assisted the DRC with conflicts and is currently engaged in contributing to a solution to the crisis prevailing.

The diplomat said this has already been expressed by the head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, during the visit of the Congolese envoy to Angola, the minister of International and Regional Cooperation, Raymond Tshibanda.

The ambassador expressed hope that president José Eduardo dos Santos will persuade his counterparts of the region to also contribute to the pacification of the country.

He characterised the situation in the DRC as catastrophic, as a result of damages and loss of human lives.

To the Congo authorities, there are no arguments to justify the armed conflict as the country has entered democracy.

The diplomat wondered why the rebel leader is not intimated by the International Court for the crimes being committed in that region of the continent.

According to the diplomat, more than two million people are currently affected by the ongoing conflict in the DRC's province of northern Kivu.

While welcoming the international community assistance, the diplomat said the rebels were also destroying the displaced people camps, with civilians fleeing into the forests.

He said that 100,000 children are currently exposed to famine, rain and epidemics like cholera that is spreading in the region.

The ambassador said that the Congolese authorities are willing to settle the conflict through the Armani Accord that enables all parties involved to express their views, having wondered why Laurent Kunda preferred to resort to fighting, causing killings within the populations.

Eric Paluku Kamanu accused that Kunda is being supported by the president of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, with whom he said director talks should be held, instead of with dissident general Kunda.
