Kampala — NILE Breweries has scooped the highly-coveted 2008 'Brewery of the Year' award among the SABMiller Breweries in Africa and Asia subsidiaries.

The company was runners-up for the same award in the last two successive years.

Nick Jenkinson, the managing director, said the investment and commitment in people, high-tech and good manufacturing practice, earned the team his dream award.

"Well done to technical team for all the support and services given.

They all play a key role in qualifying for the award. We are proud of this and will keep improving," he said.

Jenkinson disclosed that Nile Special Lager, their flagship brand, was one of the few recognised beers in the world.

The brand, he explained, earned nine gold medals at the prestigious Monde-Selection (International Institute for Quality Products selection).

In 2007, Nile Special scooped Grande Gold. The is awarded to beers which earn greater than 90% points during the vigorous selection exercise.

Jenkinson said Nile Special leads locally and globally.

the Ugandan market, but also sets the highest standards to which our competitors aspire. Few brands, if any, can celebrate such an important landmark as this attained by Nile Special. This can be attributed to being faithful to its exquisite Quality Standards," he added.
